CHEWING GUM (MOBILE MACHINERY)

The chewing devices or mobile devices, as their name suggests, are mechanisms that are not permanent but can be removed and reinserted by the patient (mobile).

What are the ideal ages?

The chews are suitable for children who are going through the
pre-pubescent age and for teenagers.

What problems can chewing gums fix?

The chewing gums can be:

  • Change the shape of the dental arch
  • Correct the anterior cruciform convocation
  • Guide the growth of the jaws

What are the advantages and disadvantages of chewing gums?

Advantages:

  • The chews can be removed while chewing the food and reinserted afterwards.
  • They are easily and quickly cleaned, which is very important for maintaining healthy teeth.

Disadvantages:

  • Their main disadvantage is that they require the active participation of the patient, as their results are largely determined by the patient.

Are all chewers the same?

The answer is no. The chewing gum is a personalized device that is tailored to the needs and requirements of the individual patient.
In easier cases they may have a simpler design, while in more difficult cases they may have a more complex design.
The aim of this personalised treatment is to adapt and fit perfectly to the structure of each patient’s mouth, providing the correct pressure and guidance according to the results expected.

What changes can I expect?

  1. Your speech may be a little different at first.
Try to read aloud for the first few days to gradually improve.
  2. The machine can make you have more saliva in your mouth at first.
This will stop in a few days.
  3. Your teeth may be sensitive for the first few days until you get used to the pressure of the machine.
  4. You should clean your machine with a toothbrush and toothpaste every time you brush your teeth.
Every day, pour a Corega effervescent tablet into a glass of water (NOT HOT or SANDY) and place the machine in it for 5 minutes (alternative: one tablet for 20 minutes twice a week).
Take the machine out, rinse and reapply.
  5. You may not chew gum, hard or soft sweets that stick to your teeth or chew ice cubes.
There is a risk that the machine could become twisted or broken.
  6. The machine you have should be worn all the time except in the following cases:

a) When you brush your teeth and the machine at the same time.
b) When you eat your main meals (morning – noon – evening).
c) When you swim in the sea or in the pool.

  1. The machine does not break easily but it needs care.
Never put or take the machine out of your mouth by pulling on the front wire, as it may break.
  2. If the machine has a reel controller, activate it as explained and come back to check the course whenever you are asked.
  3. Always put the machine in its case when you remove it and NEVER in paper or napkin (there is a risk of losing it and replacing it is expensive).
